ILU - Bartees & The Strange Fruit

As many of our readers know, We're all huge fans of the Lofi genre. To us, it's one of the few styles that exceeds in every genre, from Metal, Pop, Emo, even R&B. Lofi at it's core can define the personality and ideas behind a musician's work. Bartees & The Strange Fruit manage to demonstrate that perfectly with their Valentine's Release, "ILU". A simple three track release that captures raw tones in emotional bear traps. "ILU"'s opening track, "In a Cab" sets the tone and mood for not only the rest of the listening experience, but for the nostalgic sounds that Bartees & The Strange Fruit are drawing influence from. The tracks aren't as much an expression piece as they are a gift to the listener, an auditory venture into a landscape crafted by musical surgeons. There's brilliance within the composition of these three simple tracks, a brilliance that should be taught to musicians who truly wish understand why simplicity is best. "ILU is borderline perfection, on so many levels. It's incredibly rare that a release this powerful and inspiring goes unnoticed. Bartees & The Strange Fruit's other published release, "Magic Boy" manages to capture many of the same ideas, specifically seen in "ILU"s closing track, "Far", we absolutely suggest listening to Magic Boy after listening to "ILU", it's such a fitting experience. It's rare that such a powerful releases hits us so early in the year, but we honestly believe we'll be carrying "ILU" into 2019 and beyond as one of our favorite releases of the year. It's a near masterpiece, the only complaint is that there's not much despite the relisten value being so high and multiple listens are beyond satisfying.
