Forest Kids - Storefront

Forest Kids, a collective of more than 13 fantastic artist, have graced us with an early peek at their upcoming Ep, Storefront. Officially releasing on December 15th, the Ep is a display of pure talent and ambient experience. Storefront takes listeners through a nostalgic journey akin to those of old Adult Swim bumps or over-produced Lofi Trip-Hop. Storefront opens with such relaxation and peace that it's quite easy to forget the Ep is playing. It puts listeners in a mood that baits them into a dream state, which allows the rest of the Ep to play without interruption or distraction due to it's flawless transitions between songs. The biggest flaw we see with Ambient / Trip-Hop records is they tend to have a middle-end drop off point, aka a point in the middle of the release where things tone down or the ambiance settles. It's something to look at when really diving into the genre, but not so much when listening to enjoy. Storefront, fortunately, doesn't have a drop-off point, everything flows so smoothly that it almost appears like an intentional choice, a commentary on the low-effort production put into Lofi / Trip-Hop releases. Regardless of if that's true or not, it's certainly a take away from Storefront. Storefront closes as strongly as it opens. The midway point we mentioned picks up around the 5th track "Robo-Cop", where the tones muffle and compress to a dreamlike status and remain as such until the drop off point within the next track "Crossing Bridges", which closes with the same diminishing tones that the Midway of the Ep presented. Storefront closes with the same peaceful essence it opens with. A sign that a Story has been told, a begging, middle, and end with dynamic climaxes and shifts all throughout. Storefront is a must have for all our readers, it's one of our personal favorites of the year for a lot of unique reasons. Forest Kids is a project that has unlimited potential and we can only expect the best from upcoming releases.
