It goes without saying that Georgey V is a standout in Philly DIY right now, having released "Strange" (a psychedelic bedroom pop adventure) earlier this year, we're now presented with "Trying", an excellent experience and outstanding first full length release. "Trying" does something that a lot of modern full length's don't do, and that's fully represent the tones and aesthetics of DIY music. The entirety of the release was done in typical Philly DIY fashion, by that we mean in the home of the musician on their own time with their own equipment and training. Many Full Lengths that come from DIY musicians tend to lack this familiarity. "Trying" has a welcoming nostalgia to it, while many other releases in it's genre/category come off as very artificial. "Trying" is fun, down to it's core it's an nice little walk down the street on a really sunny day with a nice breeze while you're holding hands with someone you really love. There aren't any flaws to "Trying", it gets it's point across, it creates atmosphere, it even leaves us wanting to hear more. Georgey V clearly put heart and soul into the production, because despite knowing this was produced in their own home "Trying" still presents it's mixing with maturity and expertise. Reflecting back on what we said earlier, this is a full length that sounds like it was produced in the exact DIY manner it was, however it lacks any notable sacrifices made to keep the quality or enhance that same quality. The Quality is consistent throughout the entire release, and that's a clear sign of Georgey V's incredible attention to mixing. "Trying" is excellent, hands down a top of 2017 and something we'll have on loop at our office for quite some time. We highly suggest you go out and support Georgey V in every way possible.
