A Day Without Love - Find Yourself Remix, Vol 1

A Day Without Love is a band we return to time after time only to be more and more impressed from what creative and innovative projects come from the DIY Superstar behind the band itself. Just recently A Day Without Love released "Find Yourself", a laid back reflection on life and culture and the crossroads and clashes they lead us into and through. Find Yourself on it's own is an incredibly track and a prime example of why we're always happy and excited to talk about A Day Without Love, but we're here to talk about the incredibly unique compilation of Remixes of Find Yourself. So, today we're going to be taking a bit of a dive into Find Yourself and the Vol 1 of the remixes, since not only are they all really tight but I think projects and collaborations like this really do need to happen more often. As we said above, The original "Find Yourself" is a laid back Lofi vibe track with a sense of self discovery in a culture and scene in which peer pressure and cultural / social pressures are stronger than they've ever been. Something A Day Without Love has always done is provide music that openly encourages self discovery and self love, Lyrically we feel that in "Find Yourself", but we feel it just as much in the pulled back lofi tones of the instrumentals. The atmosphere of the track is spacey and gives ambient life to the idea of deep thought and process. It also gives way to inspiration used in some of the remixes we'll be discussing as we go on. Starting off with the first remix, done by Camp Candle. We're treated to a trippy house style remix, a remix that involves nostalgic adult swim bump feelings that really utilizes the bars dropped by Internal Rhyme and helps them shine and almost carry the track into being something entirely different than what it originated from while remaining similar in a haunting and chill-hop sort of way. Plead The Filth gives us a more digital sounding remix as opposed to the lofi analog tones used by Camp Candle and A Day Without Love in the previous tracks. The Korg-esq tones and pounding chords over the flat bass hits and sharp snares. It's a really tight remix that picks you up and locks you in to a smooth groove that's almost impossible not to dance and move to. Next up, Kito Kaid gives us a really solid brief remix that sort of serves as a solid transmission from the start and finish line of this volume. There's not quite much to say about it, being the shortest remix at just under a minute, but it's honestly is a nice brief cut between the other tracks that fits perfectly as a soft wedge separating the first and last lap of the record. We will say this though, after repeat listens is does stand out as one of the more creative tracks on the original track Dj Danny E gives us our next remix, a soothing and dreamy remix that really gives us those sit back and chill triphop-ish vibes. It's packed with dynamic synth fills and a beat that's fun and flows in a way that gives the remix a personality among the previous remixes. Lastly we have the Diverock remix which gives us another really digital remix but this time on the more harshy bass end, it stands out as the heaviest track among the remixes with a more in your face and aggressive low end style that divides it from the Lofi or softer remixes we've been gifted with prior. There we go, a brief quick summary of "Find Yourself" and the 5 Remixes that followed it! Each remix being an incredible adaptation of the original track and evidence in their own right that when creative minds come together in the DIY community and share the same message This is the first time we at Polaris have ever covered multiple artist take on a single track in a review before, or even multiple artist in a single review but it was a great way for us to really shed some light on the great things happening in DIY right now and some artist who really want to show that the scene is better when we work together as opposed to compete. If you enjoy what we we do here at Polaris DIY feel free to check us out and give us a share on Facebook, but like always check out the links to all the music and artist we've talked about today!
